What are the advantages of hiring a professional photographer?
A professional photographer has the right equipment and film to photograph
your wedding. Having photographed many weddings , an experienced
photographer will feel at ease photographing individuals, couples and
groups in a timely manner. A professional photographer uses a processing
lab that is in the business of meeting high professional standards of
print quality. When you think about the cost of photography, remember
that photographers fee is only a part of your investment. Your parents,
extended family and friends will be investing time with the photographer
during your wedding to create memories that will last forever. [back]
I want to hire a professional photographer, what's next?
Visit several photographers. Look at their sample albums.
Pay attention to your emotional response to their photography and to
the communication skills of the photographer, ask yourself " do I like
this person", you will be spending a great deal of time with this person
on one of the most important days of your life. Do you visualize a pleasant
and smooth experience with this photographer? [back]
What is the first question I should ask the photographer?
Once you have established that the photographer is available for
your date and location, ask if they will be the photographer covering
your wedding. Some studios have several photographers employed
with different levels of experience or the sample album might have
been done by a photographer not employed by the studio anymore.
You should make arrangements to meet with and view the photographer's
portfolio that is actually covering your wedding. [back]
Shouldn't I be asking "What do I get and how much does it cost"?
After you have looked through a photographer's portfolio, viewing candids,
formals and illustrative photos, you will know if this photographer has the
technique, style and spirit to be the eyes through which you and your family
will see your wedding day. Of course, you should determine if the photographer
is within your budget, give or take a little, but what you really want from
photography are memories and feeling. If you find a photographer who
makes you happy, you will never regret your investment whatever
the dollar cost. When we have invested in items that will be with us the
rest of our lives, our satisfaction has been highest when we have paid that
extra bit for the best quality. Remember "Is it better to spend a little more
than you planned or less than you should?". [back]
How much does wedding photography cost?
Prices range from $600.00 to $10,000.00 or more.
My research indicates that photography runs between 9% to 15% of the total
wedding budget. Most brides underestimate the cost of photography by
50%, in other words you will spend at least twice as much as you budgeted,
unless you have advice from a recently married bride or a wedding
coordinator who is familiar with prices in your area. [back]
Why does wedding photography cost so much?
Most people don't realize how much time and expense is involved with
photographing a wedding. Considering the initial consultation, rehearsal,
proofing and packaging, processing print orders, album assembly and delivery
taking about two hours for every hour spent at the wedding, and add the
cost of the film and lab fees then you can understand that hiring a professional
photographer who has hundreds of hours of training and experience, with
thousands of dollars worth of equipment is really quite a reasonable expense. [back]
How much time will the photographer spend at my wedding?
That is really up to you. You can have the photographer meet you where
you are getting dressed, and keep taking photos until you leave your reception.
Our typical coverage starts two hours before the ceremony and finishes
after the bouquet and garter toss at the reception. [back]
What about getting an album?
Many photographers offer "packages" that include a set number of hours, photos and
a set number of final prints in an album. It might be better to include an album that
the photographer will assemble for you, because most of us never get around
to putting our photos in albums if we have to do it ourselves. [back]
Who chooses the photos that go in the album?
After looking at the previews, the bride and groom decide what goes in their
album. We will let you specify the sequence, layout and size of the photos, so your
album will show your wedding the way you want to see it. [back]
Can I get additional photos at a later date?
Yes, we keep the negatives for 2 years after the ceremony. [back]
Can I have both color and black & white photos taken?
Yes, we offer a small collection of black & white photos at no additional charge. [back]
Is there a charge for an additional location?
We don't charge extra for an additional location, (outside photos at a park, etc.),
but the time has to be allotted within your package. [back]
